Just outside of Sarasota, Florida is a beautifully laid-back sandy beach town.
Home to three distinctive beaches, Siesta Key and its beaches are the gateway to the glistening waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Come on over and check out what each of these beautiful locations has to offer.
Siesta Key Public Beach
If you are looking to discover one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, this is a great starting point. Whereas most beaches have sand that it is primarily coral, the sand at Siesta Beach is 99% quartz. What this means for the beach goer is that that sand is extremely reflective so even at the sun’s strongest point of the day, the sand stays cool under foot.
A couple great thing about this beach is that the water near the shore is relatively shallow, there are year-round lifeguards on duty, it has concession stands on site, picnic tables for eating, and volleyball and tennis courts for play and there is ample parking at the beach. What more could you ask for in a beach experience?
If you head to the south end of Siesta Key, you will find the perfect location for family outings. Turtle Beach features a large picnic shelter, offers a bit more privacy than the beaches a bit farther up the key, and lots of free boat ramps for easy access to the Bay. One very interesting item that you can find in the sand that you won’t find at the other beaches on the Key are prehistoric petrified sharks teeth buried in the sand.
Some extras available at this spot include a building room for meetings, large and small picnic shelters, horseshoe courts and dune walkovers. One downside to the beach is that there are no lifeguards on duty.
Palmer Point Beach
This is a beach that is popular for boaters and for those who enjoy a walk along the water front. Unlike the other two beaches there are no amenities and no facilities at Palmer Point. This spot is more of a draw for fisherman and kayakers and is only accessible on foot by walking from Casey Key from the north or south from Turtle Beach.
Depending on what you seek for your day at the beach, you are sure to find the perfect spot for your outing on the Siesta Key.
